Server Crash

Why Does a Server Crash?

Know the Signs Before it Happens.

A server crash can occur for many reasons. Sometimes, there is a server hardware problem, or two hard drives in a RAID 5 crash. However, most crashes are caused by Windows server and software issues.

Usually, a server crash is preceded by error log notifications, which means if a technician is monitoring the server, he will be notified of a problem before a crash occurs. Because monitoring prevents crashes, we include it as part of regular server maintenance plan.

To determine how often server maintenance must be done, consider the following:

How much money would an unmaintained server crash cost your firm?

Do you have redundancy in your server setup, to fail-over immediately during a server crash?

If your server crashed, would you have to restore weekly, daily, or within 1 hr of the crash?
