Server Crash- Why does it happen?
Server crashes can occur for many reasons. Sometimes there is a server hardware problem, or two hard drives in a RAID 5 crash, but most server crashes are caused by Windows server and software issues. This is part of a regular server maintenance plan.
Server crashes are usually preceded by error log notifications, which means if a technician is monitoring the server, he will be notified of a problem before a crash occurs, thus allowing him to prevent it. This is part of regular server maintainance plan.
How often a server maintenance must be done depends on numerous factors:
- How much money would an unmaintained server crash cost your firm?
- Do you have redundancy in your server setup, to failover immediatly during a server crash
- If your server crashed, would you have to restore weekly, daily, or within 1 hr of the crash?
